He admitted to having a “mixed feeling” about the the existence of his book, because he did not want to let other people down.
“[But] I remember reading Kerouac’s On the Road when I was a teenager and I thought, ‘Well, why am I bothering to write novels?’ ” he said. “Because I was just annoying Kerouac. I was, ‘No, no, no, I can write better than that!’ And you should, because Kerouac is a great writer.”
Weir also commented on the role the internet plays in science and the way the public are getting more involved.
