The best way to setup/maintain reverse proxy in nginx
I’m using nginx as reverse proxy to serve two different apps (web server and API server) which are packaged in docker containers on different hosts. Currently I have two http servers (server1 and server2) in my docker swarm. The web server is served on the port 8080 and the API server is served on port 80.
What’s the best way to set this up? I tried to create one nginx container and deploy them on both servers to avoid conflicts. However, I think I can’t use port binding for this.
Another way is creating two nginx containers (one for web server and another for API server). But I don’t know how to use multiple nginx containers to serve two different application as one?

1) Create one docker image with nginx.
2) In this docker image create another docker container with nginx with different port.
3) In your web container(web server) use nginx reverse proxy to reverse proxy your two nginx container(api server).

If you think about drawing a line, you think about the ends of a line. You also think about other objects around the line. So if you have a line, it’s just that end and the thing that’s around it. That’s how your mind works.
