When it comes to making photos, the world of image-editing software is divided into a few camps:

With the addition of the Organizer, you gain the ability to view, organize, and manage all your digital images, and with the addition of Photoshop Elements Web Albums, you gain the ability to upload, view, and publish your photos to the web (in addition to displaying them on your computer screen). You can even organize your images into albums on the web that look just like albums you’d create in the Organizer.
With the addition of the tools for working with video and sound (which I cover later in the chapter), Photoshop Elements also offers an intriguing combination of basic photo editing and multimedia editing.

1. Open a new file for a photo.
Notice that the rectangular selection tool, the Pen tool, and the paint bucket tools are on the Tools panel.
2. Using the Rectangular Selection tool, make a box or rectangle selection around the brightest part of the cloud in the photo.
Now you want to know whether you’ll need to crop this part of the image. If you select the Crop tool and then drag a box around the inside of the rectangular selection tool, a bounding box will be drawn around the outside of the rectangular selection. If this bounding box shows that you have too much sky, you’ll need to reduce the size of the box. On the other hand, if you get a bounding box that shows that you have too much of something else — in this case, the sky — you may want to crop the image so that it doesn’t show that part of the sky. The Crop tool is on the Format tab. You can also use the Crop tool to crop your images in other ways (Crop the type, for example).
Use the Pen tool to paint a thin, straight line around the cloud.
3. Now press Enter on your keyboard. A new layer will appear in the Layers palette with the name of the new layer „Cloud.“
The Pen tool can be used for a variety of purposes, such as drawing straight lines, curves, adding objects, and painting in color. You can use the Pen tool to transform a section of an image, either adding features such as text, stars, shapes, or decorative designs. When you select this tool, you see a stylus pointer that changes to a long pencil and a brush.
4. To remove the pencil pointer, click the Eraser tool or use the Erase menu.
When you’re painting with the Pen tool, you can resize the brush size simply by moving the Ctrl (windows) or Cmd (mac) key down or up on the keyboard and then pressing Enter or clicking with the mouse. To change the brush size, click the Size slider on the Pen tool’s options bar. If your photo has a lot of variation in its foreground, this will be an important tool. You can paint with the brush, change the brush size, and paint from one place to another.
5. Now press Enter on your keyboard to end your selection. Use the Eraser tool to remove any unwanted elements.

It’s almost time to dig your witch’s hat out again. In all the hoopla, the weather & weather hysteria we were so lucky to have a great long weekend, but now we’re back in the trenches again.
Change the seasons, go away for a bit, as the saying goes. Well, that was two weeks in hell as we were in Newfoundland, a most amazing island.
We made our way there about a week and a half ago, trying to get out as soon as we could. Landed in St John’s Friday night, just after midnight. New Rose of Lima was the local pub, and it was packed. Probably the best way to start a trip, I thought! It’s always nice to be welcomed into a new place, and to be able to see a first hand account of the places, people & culture. It’s also helpful to get the latest weather report, and try & make contact with people. We got the top rate accommodation, a suite on the 2nd floor of the Redway Inn. A single, king size bed, sitting area, large bathroom, shower, bathtub & ensuite with a walk-in closet. I’ll never complain about a single again.
New Rose Inn
The Redway Inn (as it’s known locally) is just a block or so from Main and Duckworth Streets, and just a couple blocks from the Fisheries Museum. It’s a pleasant, though small, hotel with a restaurant on the ground floor (Café Rosalita).
